Short on trained interpreters and translators in your area? Looking for opportunities for multilingual students to use their gifts in authentic and meaningful ways?

Try building your own Interpreters in Training Program where your multilingual high school students can support their schools, families and communities in meaningful ways while engaging in meaningful work-based learning. In this session, we will present how Albemarle County Publics schools built and piloted our Interpreters in Training Program in 2022-2023, and have continued to group the program. We will preview our next steps, including securing funding, supporting transportation, and expanding the program through community partnerships.

We will cover our recruitment and application process, interpreter development, and our successes and challenges.
