How do we support and develop a network of WBL opportunities for educators so it becomes how they teach and not what they teach?
The STEM Teacher Externship Program has been the gateway to developing this culture in Iowa. Since 2009 over 800 STEM teacher externships have occurred. Learn how teachers become integrated into business for a 6 week summer experience. This school + business partnership then influences the curricular opportunities that educators brings back to the classroom. In order to give students the opportunity to learn directly from and interact with community partners, education + business partnerships can be scaled through a STEM BEST (Businesses Engaging Students & Teachers) Program award. With over 100 STEM BEST models across the state, students are developing high demand skills in that engages local connections to create authentic learning opportunities for their success.
